DVLA updates: diabetes rules for Group 2 drivers

DVLA updates: diabetes rules for Group 2 drivers

New rules for Group 2 drivers (bus/coach/lorry) came into force on 7 Nov 2025. What’s changed? DVLA has modernised the rules so Group 2 drivers with diabetes can now use continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGM/CGMS) to monitor glucose levels, rather than relying only on finger-prick testing. What hasn’t changed? Road safety still comes first. Drivers must manage their condition safely and pull over if they need to confirm readings or if they feel unwell. Notification and medical standards still apply depending on treatment type and licence group, and the DVLA “Diabetes and driving” guidance remains the go-to reference. Operator/TM quick actions (the old-school basics still matter): update driver briefings and policies (monitoring method, what to do if readings/symptoms don’t feel right), reinforce “stop safely, treat, recover” expectations with no pressing on, and if you operate across the UK note Northern Ireland may differ (drivers should check DVLA rules). #DVLA #drivers #health

Insecure Load Warning

Insecure Load Warning

Officers stopped this HGV on the M1 after concerns were raised about the safety of its load. Officers take the carriage of loads extremely seriously, whether in an HGV, car, trailer or van. Any load must be properly secured so it cannot pose a danger to other road users, and officers often see the devastating consequences when this doesn’t happen. In this case, the HGV was carrying multiple pieces of metal of varying sizes without the protective cover in place. The driver failed to use the vehicle’s built-in cover, leaving the load dangerous and insecure. As a result, the driver was issued with a traffic offence report for carrying a dangerous and insecure load. Whatever your load — secure it!
